First Day of Spring. How did you spend it?

How did you spend the first day of spring?

I spent it getting a sunburn and trust me I will remember to wear sunscreen today.  My shoulders are sore.

I burned while I was planting bib lettuce, musculum lettuce, kale, peas, sweet peas and carrots seeds.

I spent the morning prepping the beds I would be planting.  Removing any weeds and rocks.  I invited the chickens in to help with the bug clean up.  I put up my two new trellises I ordered from Garden Supply.

After a break I spent the afternoon using a flex rake to make a furrow in the soil where I would plant the seeds.  The back of seed packs let me know how deep and how far apart to plant the seeds.  A cover of soil over my little beginnings and tag marking what I planted, said I was finished (so did my burned shoulders).  🙂

I took a step back with a satisfied smile!   I am officially on my way to another season of fresh organic vegetables!  YAY it makes me a happy, happy girl!

I hope you enjoyed the first day of spring as much as I did!

My new trellis.   I planted a variety of sweet pea around perimeter.  Thankfully  I didn’t plant the seeds before the chickens decided to use these beds to take a dust bath.

How many chickens do you see in the flower bed??

There are 5!!

They left me in the vegetable garden and headed toward the Naturalizing beds.

Furrows filled with carrot seeds.

Can you see the carrot seeds??

Make sure that you mark your beds with what you plant!

I like your reminder to mark your lines with what you’ve planted. I never do that and now I don’t know whether my herbs are dill and parsley, or the other way round. And are those sweetcorn really that or just weeds I should be digging up?

🙂 I totally know how you feel. So many times I didn’t mark because I was sure I would remember, and of course I couldn’t.
